Recently, the 2026 Poultry Technology Innovation Training Program (II) – Broiler Feed & Management Technology Training, organized by the China-U.S. Soybean Product Application Value Chain Innovation Center and hosted by the U.S. Soybean Export Council and the School of Bioengineering (School of Modern Intelligent Animal Husbandry Equipment Industry) of Henan University of Technology, was successfully held at Henan University of Technology from August 17 to 18, 2026.
Focusing on key technologies in broiler nutrition, feed formulation, and farm management, the training covered a wide range of topics, including advances in breeder genetics and farm management, trace mineral nutrition, intestinal health, transgenerational effects of breeder nutrition, whole-cycle broiler nutrition strategies, carcass quality and solutions, precision feed processing, applications of soybean and soybean products, intelligent feeding equipment and management, and the latest developments in sustainable soybean production in the United States.
The program brought together cutting-edge industry insights and practical experience, providing an effective platform for technical exchange and knowledge sharing across the domestic broiler industry.
During the training, Dr. Defa Sun delivered a presentation entitled “Broiler Meat Quality and Carcass Issues: Nutritional Solutions.”
Dr. Sun provided a systematic analysis of common quality challenges in modern broiler production, including woody breast and white striping, as well as other carcass quality issues. He noted that these challenges are closely associated with the rapid growth of modern broilers and the potential mismatch between growth performance, micronutrient utilization, and antioxidant capacity.
He also introduced a thought-provoking perspective on the relationship between negative-pressure ventilation systems and the development of the avian respiratory system, particularly the air sacs. According to his analysis, modern ventilation practices may not always be fully aligned with the physiological characteristics of the avian respiratory system, offering the industry a new perspective for further discussion and research.
Dr. David Torres, Technical Director for Asia-Pacific at Novus International, was invited to deliver a presentation entitled “Mineral Supplementation in Poultry Breeder Diets: Recent Research Advances.”
Dr. Torres highlighted the critical roles of trace minerals in tissue development, skeletal growth, eggshell formation, and reproductive hormone regulation.

Of particular interest was the potential transgenerational effect of trace mineral nutrition. Supplementation with MHA chelated trace minerals can increase trace mineral deposition in egg yolks, which may help regulate NF-κB signaling and the expression of genes associated with intestinal inflammation, thereby contributing to improved chick quality and growth performance.
The combination of MHA chelated trace minerals with conventional inorganic trace minerals was highlighted as a practical nutritional strategy for supporting breeder performance and production efficiency.
Following the training program, Dr. Defa Sun and Dr. David Torres continued the technical exchange through on-site visits to several leading companies, including Wellhope Foods Co., Ltd., Shenyang Yunken Group, and Beijing Bonali Biotechnology Co., Ltd.
During these visits, the participants engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics including poultry nutrition optimization, farm management and technology upgrades, practical product applications, and collaborative industry development.
The face-to-face exchanges helped bridge the gap between research and commercial application, creating opportunities to translate advanced nutritional concepts into practical solutions for the poultry industry.
